Colorado Rentals - Telluride Vacations
Telluride is one of those story-book mountain towns, nestled comfortably between 13 and 14 thousand foot peaks. Once a mining town for gold, ironically Telluride was named after another element - tellurium, which was never actually found in the area. Most locals, however, prefer the theory that Telluride was actually an abbreviation of "to hell you ride" - a saying amongst miners due to the inhospitable terrain and climate of the 1800's. When hiking, visitors often stumble upon the relics of Telluride's mining past. Even Butch Cassidy made a brief stop in Telluride, robbing the San Miguel Valley Bank, which soon became his first recorded crime. If that isn't enough, Telluride was actually the first city in the world to have electric streetlights, beating Paris by a week.
History aside, most people visit Telluride for the outdoor adventure. Spring, summer, winter, fall - whatever your outdoor niche is, Telluride has something for everyone. World-class skiing in the winter, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in the summer, and everything in between. We'd love for you to visit!
