Colorado Rentals - Colorado Springs Vacations
Colorado Springs is just over 60 miles from Denver and sits at 6,035 feet above sea level. Perhaps the most recognized land mark near Colorado Springs is Pikes Peak, which is just 10 miles west of the city and reaches over 14,000 feet into the sky. Colorado Springs is also the second largest city in the state, with approximately 414,000 residents.
Colorado Springs is known for it’s rich history. Founded in 1871 by the Civil War general William Palmer, it quickly became known as “Little London”, mainly due to the large amount of English tourists that vacationed in the area. And just like so many of Colorado’s other established towns, Colorado Springs also became known for gold and silver mining. And at the mid point of the 20th century, Colorado Springs had one of the main military establishments within the United States, with both the United States Air Force Academy and NORAD being headquartered in the area.
Colorado Springs is known for it’s prime location at the base of the Rocky Mountains and within close proximation to Seven Falls, Cave of the Winds, Garden of the Gods, and of course Pikes Peak. Fantastic hiking trails, mountain bike down hill, and close to the top ski resorts in the state, Colorado Springs has more than enough vacation activities available for the whole family to enjoy. Visitors looking for a unique mix between a large metropolitan city and outdoor adventure surely should not miss a visit to Colorado Springs.
